REDS THROUGH TO CL GROUP PHASE
Liverpool have secured their place in the lucrative group phase of the Champions League following a 1-1 draw against Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday night.
Peter Crouch opened the scoring early in the second half only for Roberto Colautti to level nine minutes but the Reds were always in the driving seat against the Israeli champions and advanced courtesy of their 2-1 first leg success.
Luis Garcia, Xabi Alonso, Fabio Aurelio and Steven Gerrard all went close to increasing the aggregate advantage but despite a few late scares one goal was enough and we now await Friday's draw with eager anticipation.
The only sour note on an otherwise satisfying night in neutral Ukraine was the injuries sustained by Stephen Warnock and Momo Sissoko.
